Land Rovers - Vehicle Histories

I am not able to provide (or guess at) the histories of Land Rovers, but the following two organisations can usually some information. Also, the Land Rover Archives Department can usually find the production record for your Land Rover if you have a chassis number. Also, for military Land Rovers, the Ex-Military Land Rover Association is worth joining, and can help with the various holes and attachments which these Land Rovers often have.

Museum of Army Transport (Beverley)

This recently-reopened museum holds the archive cards for all ex-British Army vehicles. They're very helpful and will point you towards the correct archive for non-Army Land Rovers (eg. RAF, Navy). In return for a small fee (GBP 12.50 in 1995), they will send you a photocopy of the vehicle's record card. Ideally, you should send them the military registration number and chassis number. Their address is:

Vehicle Research Department,
Museum of Army Transport,
Fieldgate, Beverley,

British Motor Heritage Centre (Gaydon)

Gaydon holds copies of most of the Land Rover factory records. From a chassis number, they can tell you the date of manufacturer. They can do this over the phone, but for GBP 10.00 they can provide a certificate. The DVLA accepts this certificate when you are registering for tax exemption. Their address is:
