Who is this Challis Bloke Anyway?
After various successes in distributed.net's code-cracking efforts, Prof. James Challis' Most Excellent UK Team have entered a team in the SETI@Home Project. This is a project to use computers distributed across the Internet to analyse data received by the SERENDIP IV instrument at Arecibo (Puerto Rico) for possible signals from Extra-Terrestrial Intelligences (ETs, LGMs, or maybe the odd ALF).
Unlike the distributed.net project, there is no prize money but if you find ET, fame and fortune are bound to follow!
To join, download the client from the SETI@Home Page, and start processing blocks of data. When you run the client for the first time, it will ask you for an identifying email address. This should be a functioning email address. After downloading the first block of data, query the SETI@Home pages for your email address. This will include an option to send you an email with your password. Do this. When you receive the password, go to the Prof. Challis Stats Page and join up.
As with distributed.net's RC5-64 & DES-II projects, we intend to become the premier UK team. Join us now, and make it happen!
Prof. James Challis' Most Excellent UK Team continues to work on the distributed.net projects, the grid.org projects, the NFSNet Project, and the climateprediction.net project.
Thanks to Andy Young (CIXen) for the logo!
