OGC approves GeoSciML for Geological Data

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) have just approved the GeoSciML v4.1 proposal as an OGC standard.

GeoSciML is based on GML/XML and can store information about observations & measurements, borehole data, metadata for lab analysis, geological time, and structural data. There are three standard levels: lite (for simple applications); basic (for basic data exchange); and extended (for more complex scenarios).

The full specification can be found on the OpenGeospatial website at: http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/geosciml
